For as long as there has been commercially supported open source software, there has been a misconception about the relative costs and benefits associated with open source software support by a subscription. In other words: free software is not free. Realistically, free software requires substantial OPEX investment of human resources the quickly offsets any savings from avoiding subscription fees.
